Utrecht, The Netherlands, August 1, 2025 –
We are pleased to welcome Bas Nieuwenhuis as our new VP of Engineering. Bas brings nearly three decades of experience in product development and R&D leadership, with a strong background in MedTech and lab automation.
During more than ten years at BD Kiestra, Bas led the development of the Kiestra lab automation platform. “It made me proud,” he reflects, “to contribute to one of the essential functions in healthcare. Using my creativity, structure, and drive, I was able to help improve our products, making labs more efficient and speeding up the delivery of results to patients.”
Bas later explored a more entrepreneurial role at Movacolor, outside the MedTech domain. “It was a very interesting and valuable experience,” he shares, “but I came to realize I missed working in MedTech. That’s where I find the greatest sense of purpose.”

After connecting with Vitestro’s CEO & co-founder Toon Overbeeke and learning more about the company’s mission, Bas felt confident he could make a meaningful contribution to its future.
Bas succeeds Bert Wiggers, who is retiring after many years of dedicated service to Vitestro. We thank Bert for his leadership and commitment and wish him all the best in his retirement.
As VP of Engineering, Bas will lead our engineering organization as we enter a new phase focused on scaling Aletta®, our Autonomous Robotic Phlebotomy Device™ (ARPD™). His leadership will help guide the technical team as the product is implemented across more healthcare environments.
