Head of Software

Job Description


Vitestro is a fast-growing medical robotic company. We are the first in the world to develop a fully autonomous blood-drawing device using a combination of state-of-the-art A.I. and robotics. With our multidisciplinary team of >35 people we strive to innovate and improve clinical diagnostics, increasing resilience of our healthcare systems.

Structure of the software team: the head of software leads the software team. Two software architects are responsible for real-time robot control and the clinical application including vision. A third discipline hospital integration (incl. cloud-based back end) will follow in 2023. Currently, the total software team consists of 11 software engineers, excluding several outstanding vacancies.


Process & planning responsibilities (1/3 of your time)

  • Keeping overview of short-term and long-term planning, ensuring the software team meets challenging timelines.
  • Estimating high-level the amount of work of new feature or enablers, based on your experience.
  • Implementing the right agile structure to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the software development.
  • Anticipating on extra resources that might be required.
  • Representing the software team in the management team in periodically held management meetings.

Understanding and steering in technology, QA and RA challenges (1/3 of your time)

  • Leading the software team to create a successful product.
  • Defining software architecture, together with software architects who oversee their disciplines.
  • Guiding high-level software product decisions, in close collaboration with our Head of Product and other disciplines. (hardware, QA/RA, clinical).
  • Safeguarding the robustness of the software along the way.
  • Guiding the product towards CE, including all quality and regulatory aspects.

HR responsibilities (1/3 of your time)

  • You will be HR responsible for all the software engineers.

Job requirements

What is your must-have skillset?

  • >5-10 years demonstrated experience in leading (high-tech) software teams
  • Experience with software development (C++)
  • Experience with test-driven development (C++ or python)
  • Proficient level of understanding of python and web technologies
  • Master’s degree (WO) in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent

What is your nice-to-have skillset?

  • Experience with software development for moving hardware devices
  • Experience with software development for medical devices (IEC 62304)
